What to expect
Trincomalee was a major Allied naval base during the Second World War, and this cemetery holds the graves of servicemen who died here, most of them from Britain and the Commonwealth.
It is cared for on behalf of the Commonwealth War Graves Commission, and the neat rows of headstones among flowering shrubs make it one of the calmest places on the coast.
